4:30 The New SDS: Building a Better Student Organization
Open discussion on the revival of SDS, and what we want a student
organization for the democratization of everyday life to look like.

We have a rich history of organizing for justice and power at
Macalester (and other colleges, of course), but the memory of the
student body is short. Hear from veteran professors and alumni student
activists about what has been done in the past.

How do policies set by an unaccountable group of corporate and
government bureaucrats affect life for everyone from Mexican farmers and
students to those of us at Macalester? Come to this panel to explore the

1962, SDS students in the U.S. published the Port Huron Statement. What
can we learn from our predecessors in student movements? What has changed
and what remains the same?

Minnesota DREAM Act and a representative of the Minnesota Prison
Education Project on the rising barriers to higher education for

Graduating? Don't want to work for the Man? Come to this discussion
with college grad members of the Industrial Workers of the World (a
revolutionary workers' union) and the Federation of Workplace
Democracies-MN (FWD-MN, pron. 'Forward Minnesota, it's a group of
worker-owned co-ops) to find out how you can keep fighting capitalism
and oppression after college, or at least gain some dignity at work.

March 18th
Tent State will have an early kickoff event on Tuesday, April 3rd at Macalester College, when Mark Rudd, veteran of SDS and the Weather Underground, will speak. There will be a showing of "The Weather Underground" on Monday, April 2nd. Both events will be at 7 pm in the JBD Lecture Hall downstairs in the Macalester Campus Center.
March 14th
St. Kate's will be meeting over spring break for a work day. Come
to the Student Org Center on the 21st at 10am to make flyers, create a
Senate funding proposal, and help get the Tent State organized. All
schools are invited. Come, even if you haven't been involved yet.
March 11th
Community wide meeting is at St. Thomas at 8pm in the Blue Lagoon
in Murray-Herrick. There will be a van leaving from Security at St.
Kate's at 7:45 to go to the meeting. We will stop at Macalester and
pick up anyone who needs a ride. We have a 15 passenger van, but I'm
sure we could squeeze in a few more.
March 10th
Community wide meeting has been moved to St. Thomas for March 12th,
at 8 pm. Specific place has yet to be determined. There will be a van
leaving from Security at St. Kate's at 7:50 to go to the meeting.
March 7th
Tent State is nearing... A community wide meeting is scheduled
for 8pm at Macalester.
Also.. new graphics are available. please dowload, print, distribute,
and plague your corner of town with tent state energy.

Feb. 29th.
St. Thomas is planning their tent state to take place on Thursday,
April 12th. A overnight camp on the quad will extend Tent State into
the morning of April 13th. Check the St. Thomas section for details.

Welcome to Tent State MN. This project is about reclaiming higher
education for students. Check out the mission statement of the project
and get involved. Tent State will be April 9 to 14 at Macalester, April
13 at St. Catherine.
