What is Tent State?
Tent State is a growing student led movement that challenges the current state of education in America.  Today, higher education has become an absolutely invaluable tool to succeed economically, but has increasingly become unavailable to an ever growing population.  Education is a fundamental right, and Tent State demands that it be accessible to all regardless of financial and social restrictions.

Tent State lays the foundation for a movement that works to change the balance of priorities in a nation that consistently under values education, and other social rights such as health care, social security, and job training.
This is an invitation to participate in Tent State. Everyone has something to contribute, whether it is a skill, knowledge, or even some sort of talent. All are invited to participate.

Contribute!
Your presence is essential to make this a success.  If you are in a club, organize an activity.  As an individual, teach something that isn't taught in the classroom.  Learning is not all about text books.  Show each other how to fix a bike, or knit socks, or breathe fire, or anything skill you might have.  Take learning outside the classroom!

How can you contribute you ask?

Activities!
Student teach-ins - Share your skills with fellow students.
Speakers - Learn from people for free, or come and speak! Knowledge doesn't need to have a price tag.
Live Music - Local bands are invited to provide music Thursday night.
Camp on the Quad - Spend the night on the lower quad for camping, a bonfire, and plenty of surprises!

Classes!
Teachers- Take your classes outside and move education into the open!  Move outside the doors of the institution, and open your class to the community.

Bring!
Sleeping bag, tent, lovely décor (banners, paintings, flags, sidewalk chalk, drums and whistles, unusual musical instruments, and other resources with which to beautify the spaces we occupy), entertainment (educational documentaries, stand-up comedy, heartbreaking music, stunning poetry, whatever it takes to initiate genuine communication between people), festive apparel (face paints, puppets, stilts), and readiness for anything.

Our Goals

What do we hope to accomplish with Tent State? With a task as monumental as challenging the rising costs of education and challenging the concept of institutionalized education, what could one day in the quad possibly accomplish?
We hope to create a space where a forum and discussion can occur about the increasing costs of higher education and what college is preparing us for. We are hoping this space will allow for other models of education to develop.
